After a couple of days away from my photographic practice I am pleased to get back in the field capturing the essence of Skye.  It has been a murky and misty day with a lot of dew hanging from the leafless branches of the silver birch.  I decide to take just a few shots to try to capture this very wintery scene.

I love the silver, grey and red colour palette, which is emphasised by the low-lying sun, just about to fall below the horizon.  I work quickly to find the best subject and location.

I take a few shots with intentional camera movement, but I am not very happy with the results and they seem to flatten the beautiful light and highlights rather than emphasising the magical qualities.

I decide to do some multiple exposure work with a blurry first shot and then superimpose a sharp shot – all done in camera.  This type of shot immediately suggests that something lies behind the predominant subject in the image and gives a sense of mystery – the ephemeral hiddenness.  They also convey very much the theme of Winter Impressions.
