After a few miserable mornings, I set out at 6am with Freddie. The sky is ablaze, giving me a hint of the colours that will deepen before sunrise.

We walk across the harvested wheat field - the silage having soaked into the soil, allowing us to follow our usual walking route. As I look into the distance, I can see that the sweet corn field has been harvested too. A field of destruction greets us rather than the crop standing proud as it had a few days before.

The landscape reminded me of a time on Skye when I returned to a forest I had visited for a number of years to find all the trees felled. A similar feeling of sadness enveloped me. Here are a couple of images from Skye - a period of devastation and fracture:

Returning to the landscape of Wiltshire, as the sun rose in the sky, the countryside was bathed in the golden colours of autumn, as was the white house at the end of our path home.

And, as I turned around to bid goodbye to the lone tree behind us it was encircled in the morning glow of sunrise.
