I wonder about staying at home and photographing scenes from the house but ultimately the draw of the loch wins out and I head down the road to Elgol. I stop on the way to take some contextual shots. I wonder about the wisdom of providing my followers with the wider view of the surrounding area – while they might be interested – it may take away the magic from my images. . . Is this something I should worry about?

The deep autumn colours remain vibrant and the loch is still but, for me, lacks energy and soul today. The light is flat and reflects the fact we have well and truly slipped into winter. I choose to use my 50mm lens in order to capture what light there is. As I walk along the edge of the loch my mood matches the flat light. I know in my heart that today is not a good day and the crevice through which the unnameable glimmer might be glimpsed is beyond my reach.

Alison I think the surrounding area shots will give a context for your work but if you choose those that reflect the emotion of your work then you could get an overall message. I’m fascinated by the difference the seasons make to the impression you get of Skye.
